MCF10A (normal breast tissue). Acetamide moiety modification (13 a-g) to introduce additional hydrophobicity was favoured with MCF-7 breast cancer cell activity enhanced at 1.3 nM. Other analogues were potent against the HT29 colon cancer cell line at 23 nM. Textbook SAR data was observed in the MCF-7 cell line, in an MTT assay, via the ortho (17 a), meta (17 b) and para (13 f). The amino alcohol -OH moiety was pivotal, but no stereochemical preference noted. But, these data did not fit our homology modelling expectations. Aberrant MTT ((3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide) screening results and metabolic interference confirmed by sulforhodamine B (SRB) screening. Interfering analogues resulted in 120 and 80-fold CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 amplification, with no upregulation of SULT1A1. This is consistent with activation of the AhR pathway. Piperidine per-deuteration reduced metabolic inactivation. 3-OH / 4-OH piperidine analogues showed differential MTT and SRB activity supporting MTT assay metabolic inactivation. Data supports piperidine 3-OH, but not the 4-OH, as a CYP substrate. This family of β-amino alcohol substituted 3,4-dichlorophenylacetonitriles show broad activity modulated via the AhR pathway. The arms included (1) BBL-GP, a web-based intervention augmented with an in-person diet and physical activity consultation; (2) a single clinician-led group, Lifestyle Modification Program (LMP); and (3) a web-based control. The primary outcome was the Australian National University Alzheimer Disease Risk Index Short Form (ANU-ADRI-SF). Results: Baseline assessments were conducted on 128 participants. A total of 125 participants were randomized to 3 groups (BBL-GP=42, LMP=41, and control=42). At immediate, week 18, week 36, and week 62 follow-ups, the completion rates were 43% (18/42), 57% (24/42), 48% (20/42), and 48% (20/42), respectively, for the BBL-GP group; 71% (29/41), 68% (28/41), 68% (28/41), and 51% (21/41), respectively, for the LMP group; and 62% (26/42), 69% (29/42), 60% (25/42), and 60% (25/42), respectively, for the control group. The primary outcome of the ANU-ADRI-SF score was lower for the BBL-GP group than the control group at all follow-ups. These comparisons were all significant at the 5% level for estimates adjusted for baseline differences (immediate: difference in means -3.86, 95% CI -6.81 to -0.90, P=.01; week 18: difference in means -4.05, 95% CI -6.81 to -1.28, P<.001; week 36: difference in means -4.99, 95% CI -8.04 to -1.94, P<.001; and week 62: difference in means -4.62, 95% CI -7.62 to -1.62, P<.001). Conclusions: A web-based multidomain dementia risk reduction program augmented with allied health consultations administered within the general practice context can reduce dementia risk exposure for at least 15 months. A black soil (BS) with approximately 12% organic matter (OM) and a red soil (RS) with less than 1% OM were amended with 1000 mg Sb kg−1 of different Sb compounds and subjected to single extractions with distilled (DI) water, 2M HNO3, Simplified Bioaccessibility Extraction Test (SBET) and a modified Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) sequential extraction method. The results revealed that there are substantial variations in dissolution rate of various Sb sources, depending upon soil type and Sb compound. The amounts of DI water extractability of Sb during the incubation time varied between <1% and 2%, whereas HNO3 extractable fractions and Sb bioaccessibility at the end of ageing time ranged between about 1%-3% and <1%–9% of the total Sb, with maximum bioaccessibility observed in BS contaminated with C8H4K2O12Sb2. The residual and labile fractions accounted for 77–93% and 0.1–4% of the total Sb, respectively, indicating that Sb is mostly associated with recalcitrant fractions of the soils. The results of single and sequential extraction studies revealed that source of Sb, ageing time and soil properties can greatly affect the bioavailability of Sb in soils. This research emphasised the concept that time can save energy, which is not yet covered in the literature as time value of energy when time is not an essential aspect and can be delayed without affecting the main tasks.]]> Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:50:44 AEDT ]]> Abortion care pathways and service provision for adolescents in high-income countries: a qualitative synthesis of the evidence https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38535 Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:49:44 AEDT ]]> Assessing the interactions between micropollutants and nanoparticles in engineered and natural aquatic environments https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38651 Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:49:32 AEDT ]]> Asthma across the ages: adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38401 Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:48:58 AEDT ]]> Attributions of elder neglect: a phenomenological study of older people in Ghana https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38406 Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:48:48 AEDT ]]> Surface oxidized two-dimensional antimonene nanosheets for electrochemical ammonia synthesis under ambient conditions https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46344 −1 mgCAT−1 and faradaic efficiency (FE) of 11.6% are achieved using our antimonene nanosheets. Low-THC cannabis and non-THC cannabinoids for the treatment of cancer https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38260 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆9-THC). Evidence is emerging for the therapeutic benefits of cannabis in the treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, with potential efficacy as an analgesic and antiemetic for the management of cancer-related pain and treatment-related nausea and vomiting, respectively. An increasing number of preclinical studies have established that ∆9-THC can inhibit the growth and proliferation of cancerous cells through the modulation of cannabinoid receptors (CB1R and CB2R), but clinical confirmation remains lacking. In parallel, the anti-cancer properties of non-THC cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD), are linked to the modulation of non-CB1R/CB2R G-protein-coupled receptors, neurotransmitter receptors, and ligand-regulated transcription factors, which together modulate oncogenic signalling and redox homeostasis. Additional evidence has also demonstrated the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabinoids, and this may prove relevant in the context of peritumoural oedema and the tumour immune microenvironment. This review aims to document the emerging mechanisms of anti-cancer actions of non-THC cannabinoids.]]> Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:45:13 AEDT ]]> The origin of performance limitations in miniemulsion nanoparticulate organic photovoltaic devices https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41684 Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:43:13 AEDT ]]> Burden of atrial fibrillation and stroke risk among octagenarian and nonagenarian women in Australia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39018 2DS2-VA scheme, were calculated. Factors associated with AF were assessed using logistic regression. Results: From 2000 to 2015, a total of 1827 women with AF were identified. AF prevalence increased every year as women aged from 2.71% (95% CI 1.62%–3.80%) in 2000 among women aged 74–79 years to 24.83% (95% CI = 23.23%–26.44%) in 2015 among women aged 89–94 years. The incidence proportion remained constant (between 3% and 5%) throughout the study period. Sedentary lifestyle (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.04–1.49), hypertension (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09–1.42), arthritis (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09–1.41), heart attack (OR = 1.62, 95% CI = 1.18–2.24), and angina (OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.14–1.70) were independently associated with AF. Mean CHA2DS2-VA score for women with AF was 3.43 (SD ± 1.23). Conclusions: The prevalence of AF reported in Australian women is among the highest compared to previous estimations from other countries and regions. According to the findings, about one in four women over the age of 90 years had AF. These women were also at high risk of stroke. This has significant public health implications especially with changing demographics of increase in the aging population. Further research is required on understanding how women with AF are treated in Australia and their health outcomes.]]> Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:43:06 AEDT ]]> A C/V2O5 core-sheath nanofibrous cathode with mixed-ion intercalation for aluminium-ion batteries https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44893 Mon 24 Oct 2022 15:42:26 AEDT ]]> The effect of tail fin size on the yaw performance of small wind turbines operating in unsteady flow https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44581 Mon 17 Oct 2022 14:19:42 AEDT ]]> Modular LED arrays for large area solar simulation https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41851 Mon 15 Aug 2022 10:38:23 AEST ]]> The significance of sky temperature in the assessment of the thermal performance of buildings https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44158 Mon 10 Oct 2022 09:38:29 AEDT ]]> Towards price-based predictive control of a small-scale electricity network https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44152 Mon 10 Oct 2022 09:31:19 AEDT ]]> Defect Engineering for Photocatalysis: From Ternary to Perovskite Oxynitrides https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41162 Fri 23 Feb 2024 10:25:52 AEDT ]]> A temporal sampling basis for visual processing in developmental dyslexia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38524 Fri 22 Oct 2021 11:25:51 AEDT ]]> Sequencing and scheduling for multi-user machine-type communication https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47217 Fri 16 Dec 2022 10:16:24 AEDT ]]> Predicting slow pyrolysis process outcomes with simplified empirical correlations for a consistent higher heating temperature: biochar yield and ash content https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44461 Fri 14 Oct 2022 09:07:54 AEDT ]]> Beyond 2020: modelling obesity and diabetes prevalence https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38948 Fri 11 Mar 2022 12:45:18 AEDT ]]>
